In a city called Elizabeth City in North Carolina, two textile manufacturers named Torstein Aagaard and Otto Tømmeraas were dealing with vacuum bags of cloth nearby. They came up with the idea to give their vacuum sealed clothes a tiger-stripe striped effect on their clothing.

This was achieved by including vertical stripes into the Dacron that was put over their design trademark or “Scovill” label for it to be applied onto the garments and subsequently sealed into a vacuum bag using hydraulic presses.
