It consists of a shield which bears flowers (the cotton flower or Hibiscus Rosa Sinensis and the Rose Apple or Malus sylvestris) – a symbol of fertility, a sword – the instrument of justice; and waves at the bottom which represent Jamaican’s maritime history. Below this is a banner carrying inscription: Eenie Meenie Miney Moe (“Choose one at random”), representing monikers given to African slaves during tribal activity.
