In 1949, the team was named the Fort Wayne Athletics. They became an NBA franchise in 1964 but changed their name to the Detroit Pistons a year later. After they won their first NBA championship in 1989, they decided to have a team logo with an updated design (to wear on their jerseys). The new design gave them so much more national attention as one of the only teams without player names written on their jerseys and as one of only two wearing shorts with stockings (the Chicago Bulls being the other team). That logo is now 220 years old and amazingly it hasn’t changed except for color schemes and font arrangement.
